Happy Holidays

and a Blessed Christmas to everyone

Thursday, November 25, 2010

What is gratitude?

Gratitude is a choice – a choice to see things differently.

When choosing to be grateful, you are focusing on all
the things that are good or right in your life, as opposed
to the things that are not.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving
I am so thankful for all of you!

the Holidays are coming?

Where the heck did  fall go...for that matter where the heck did summer go?

I am in the midst of relearning the Mac computer and transferring my Photoshop and graphics to it...easy peasy, right? Wrong...getting existing printers and external hard drive transfers and all that has been time consuming BUT oh how I love my macs! My youngest daughter came over the other night for me to compose and print out some picture storyboards for her work and we remininced over the memories of her learning computers at the age of 2 on our old (26 years ago) macs.

I worked on some graphic hybrid gifts yesterday and I am soooo thankful for the juices of joy that flow from artistic mojo...aren't you?

Ah memories and good times!! Have a wonderful day and have fun creating!

and the winner is...

Brush BoxHe has a piece in the next edition of the Art Apprentice Online E-Mag!

I cannot believe it BUT my name was drawn for one of Karl's seminar pieces..the stationary box!! To say that I am thrilled is a little on the mild side! This is the design on the top....beautiful.

The seminar is over and we had a marvelous "weinie roast" last night. What a fantastic group of talented, lovely painters. I will miss them!

If you ever get the chance to study with Karl grab it he has a wealth of information and talent to share. God speed Karl on your journey to Germany tomorow and your weeks of teaching at the university there!

Stars in our eyes!

I will never see stars in quite the same way since doing the triangle box in the seminar birds eye maple stars are way to dark or is it that my wood burling is way to light? I will fix it with glazes but you have never seen so much tape in one room! Thousands of little bits of blue tape encompassed Sue Olson's lovely sunny studio yesterday. I am so enjoying Karl's class.

The Definition of Decorative Art:

Sometimes known as functional art – a term that embraces all artistic works created for both use and decoration. It includes work by skilled artisans, in metal, stone, wood, and glass as well as textiles including quilts, coverlets, and tapestries. The term also refers to those aspects of interior design subordinate to architecture, including molded plaster work, wallpaper, furniture, and draperies. Personal objects such as jewelry, tools, and costumes are considered to be part of the decorative arts as well. Any and all art works with a sense of design fall under the decorative arts and are the wonderful things that we live with and look at every day. The Center also features contemporary work by artists who use the traditional decorative arts media.

right on the nail head!!

this was forwarded to me by my sister after a weekend of trying to get my parents to use facebook......priceless! I know this is exactly how they feel.....

I thought about the 30 year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a Blackberry that played music, took videos, pictures and communicated with Facebook and Twitter.

I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, 13 grandkids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.

That was before one of my grandkids hooked me up for Tweeter, Tweetree, Twhirl, Twitterfon, Tweetie and Twittererific Tweetdeck, Twitpix and something that sends every message to my cell phone and every other program within the texting world.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble talking to my wife as everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. Seems I have to take my hearing aid out to use it and I got a little loud.

I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-ul-ating". You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then when I would make a right turn instead, it was not good.

When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.

To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I can lose three phones all at once and have run around digging under chair cushions and checking bathrooms and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings.

The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the grocery store. You would think they could settle on something themselves but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused but I never remember to take them in with me.

Now I toss it back to them. When they ask me, "Paper or Plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual." Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look

new strokework designs

Joshua 1:7-9

Trust God in everything that you do. Obey His commandments and read His word. The Lord is faithful to never leave or forsake us in good times or in bad. Praise be to God!!

The instructions to Joshua here do not address military matters at all. This might seem surprising given the battles ahead. But his success depended more on his spiritual state and his degree of obedience to God than on any military strategy. The spiritual demands preceded the martial ones. The idea here is that one should reflect upon God’s Word in a thoughtful way, appropriating its truths personally and applying them to life

1:7Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Tier 2 and the Charts

I enjoyed taking  the time Monday to make both of the Value Charts presented by Linda Wise and Sharon Hamilton. My own scale is very similar to the one used by Linda Wise. The only difference is that I use a mixed black using Burnt Umber and Ultramarine Blue which is easy to lend to a cool and a warm black.

Summer is hectic but so beautiful in Ohio and I am enjoying my flowers and the outdoors!

My little haven here on earth

I spent a few hours yesterday rearranging the studio. I am thankful for my little haven where I get to play and create. Now that we are having such beautiful weather in central Ohio my hubby and I are resuming our bike rides on the trails downtown. I want to spend time outdoors in my flowers and enjoying the sunshine but my studio beacons me inside amidst the bottles and brushes and papers and pens....too little time in a day for all that I want to do!!

We cannot let fear of failure stop us from perfecting the talents God has given us. He expects us to make the most of the abilities that He gives us both spiritually and physically and then to apply them for our good and the good of His kingdom. We are created to give Him glory, honor and praise. Matthew 25:14-29
